Another interresting sport event happend in 1978, when the world speed record in downhill skiing was broken here. The speed of 200 km per hour was overcame.

The resort itself lay out on the strand of „Laguna del Inca“ lake, 40 km from the highest mountain of South America Aconcagui. Nearby is border checpoint between Chile and Argentina. Portillo is very special place also thanks to four svow tows called „Coming and Going“, propably the only snow-tows over the world.
In the resort you can get accomodation in Portillo hotel or in smaller cabins. Very pleasant experience is bath in hot watter pool. There are not so many slopes as in other resorts, but never mind, skiers of all levels will find what fits for them and - if it is still not enough - you can use some of couple free-ride and heliskiing tracks.
